Memorial Persecution Jews
Jahnstrasse, 77694, Kehl
Baden-Württemberg, Germany

In addition to the eleven "Stolpersteine" that can be found in the center of Kehl, a memorial stele for the pogrom night of November 1938 was erected in 1991 opposite the former town hall on Jahnstraße. On November 10, 1938, the Jewish synagogue of Kehl was broken into by SS supporters and Gestapo and all ritual objects were destroyed. All Jewish men from Kehl and the surrounding area were taken to the city hall, abused and then deported to the KZ Dachau. After this night, the Jewish community had to sell the synagogue to the city, after which it was demolished in 1939. Officially, 34 Jews born in Kehl died during the Nazi regime.
