Memorial Pastor Andreas Rieser
Kirchplatz 1, 5632, Dorfgastein
Salzburg, Austria
Plaque for pastor Andreas Rieser. Father Andreas Rieser is called the "Chaplain of the Onion Dome" by his fellow prisoners because he had written a document against National Socialism in 1938 "To be remembered in later times.". That writing was supposed to be hidden in the "onion-shaped" sphere of the church, but he was betrayed and arrested. From 1938 he came to KZ Dachau where he tried to help as many others as possible. That made fellow prisoners call him "the angel of Dachau" since 1942. It clearly showed his great willingness to help. Rieser survived the war and the camps and died in 1966 in Bamberg, Germany. .
