[gwid]1550,Kamp Erika[/gwid], an almost forgotten German concentration camp in the woods of Ommen, Overijssel. Two monuments have been erected around the camp, [towid]774, one for the entire camp[/towid] and one for the [towid]137100,executed resistance members[/towid]. A campsite was built on the site of the camp just after the war. In this area nothing reminded of the camp. Artist Corine Aalvanger was asked to design a monument that blends into the landscape, yet respects history. She chose to cast the five letters of the camp, E, R, I, K, A in concrete and bury them mostly at the corners of the pentagonal camp. It symbolizes [i]"for the concealment of this history"[/i], according to Aalvanger.
