Memorial Deportees 1943 Authumes As a retaliatory measure for the assault on a German train loaded with ammunition in Forêt d’Authumes on Thursday September 23rd 1943, nine arbitrary inhabitants were deported to Buchenwald. Six of them died there, three returned after the war. The yearly commemoration is on a Saturday closest to September 23rd. The ceremony commences at 17.20 hrs. Beforehand there is a divine service. The events are not written down, but are being discussed during the commemoration. In particular the focus is on Nazi terrorism. In 2023 the 80th anniversary is extended. The 23rd is exactly on a Saturday then.
