The couple Selma and Salomon Steinberg-Hertz had fled from Goch in Germany to the Netherlands before the war. Here they rented a house on the Maastrichterlaan in Beek. In 1942 they moved to Grevenbicht because the Beekse NSB mayor Smalbach, who was looking for housing, wanted this building. From there they combed in camp Vught. On 8 May 1943 they were transferred to Westerbork and from there deported to Sobibor 3 days later. On May 14, they were gassed there. Math van Kampen made a memorial plaque in 2019, which is placed on the garden wall in front of the house.
