Freight Cars at Camp Vught

Within walking distance of the National Monument Camp Vught, these two historic freight cars of the type 'Oppeln' were placed in 2022. They stand on a piece of railroad track that was also here from 1944 onwards. Scrap metal that was to be dismantled in the camp's aircraft scrapyard, was transported along the 3.5 kilometer long camp railroad line built by prisoners. The railroad itself was dismantled in 1948. In similar wagons, prisoners were also transported by the Nazi's from Vught station to concentration camps in Germany. More than 12,000 Jews were deported from concentration camp Vught, via Vught station and transit camp Westerbork, also in such wagons to the death camps in Poland.
