Panther Tank Houffalize

This Panther Mark V tank, version G, ended up upside down in the river Ourthe in the center of Houffalize during Von Rundstedt's Ardennes Offensive. The tank belonged to the 116. Panzer-Division, LVIII Panzerkorps, 5. Panzer-Armee. This unit managed to conquer the town of resistance on December 19, 1944. The original number of the tank was 111. The tank was recovered from the river on September 20, 1948 by the Engineers of Namur. The bridge itself can be found on the west side of Houffalize, on the Rue de la Roche, the road to La Roche. This Panther is one of three that can still be found in the Ardennes, the others are in [towid]196,Grandmenil[/towid] and [towid]1067,Celles[/towid].
