Memorial 47e Royal Marine Commando

Le Sémaphore, Port-en-Bessin
Normandie, France

Memorial to the 47th Royal Marine Commando. 420 men of the 47th Royal Marine Command landed on the beach at Asnelles, 20 km from their target on the morning of 6 June 1944. Their mission, the liberation of Port-en-Bessin, was at the intersection of the Gold Beach and Omaha Beach sectors. At night they still managed to capture Port-en-Bassin and thus establish a connection between the troops on Gold Beach and Omaha Beach. The memorial stands on top of a German bunker, WN57. The bunker is also accessible and from the observation opening you have a beautiful view over the harbor and the beach to the east of it.
