Hotel de Wormshoef Lunteren

Gelderland, Netherlands, the

During the Battle of Arnhem in late September 1944, part of the Arnhem Sicherheitsdienst (SD) fled to Lunteren. They established in Villa de Wormshoef an SD Aussenstelle where from October 1944 to April 1945 over 400 prisoners were detained. Many of them were severely tortured during interrogations by the SD officers based here. Some of them did not survive the war, others escaped, were released or ended up in various camps and prisons in the Netherlands and Germany. After the liberation of Lunteren in April 1945, the Wormshoef was used by the Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten (Internal Armed Forces) as a prison for detained SD-personal, Landwacht-men and NSB-members. Since the late 1950s, Villa de Wormshoef has had a catering destination and is now known as Hotel Eethuys de Wormshoef.
