Memorial Prima Mater Ramsdonk
Gemeenteplein, 1880, Ramsdonk (Kapelle-op-den-Bos)
Flemish-Brabant, Belgium
The memorial Prima Mater is dedicated to all victims of hate and exclusion around the world. The statue shows a mother with child on the way to Auschwitz. It refers to the childhood history of Tinel's Jewish friend Simon Gronowski, who at the age of eleven, with the help of his mother, was able to escape the horror by jumping out of the XXth train convoy. Koenraad Tinel manufactured Prima Mater of corten steel, a durable type of steel with a rust-colored patina. This mother with child symbolizes the highest form of human love and surrender.
