Memorial to American pilots and resistance fighters

Rue de la Fontaine-Saint-Martin, Han-sur-Lesse
Namur, Belgium

In 1970, on the initiative of the inhabitants of Han-sur-Lesse, this memorial was erected along a hiking trail (3 km from H-s-L), on the spot where a number of resistance fighters (including 2 Russians) were murdered. No names are mentioned, there are only two texts. "Ces pierres qui ont bu votre sang nous vous les dédions. O Héros obscurs venus ici donner vie pour conserver la nôtre ". ("We commit these stones to you that drank your blood. O invisible heroes, come here to give your life to save ours ") «And souvenir des aviateurs américains et des résistants russes et belges tombés en ces lieux 1940 - 1945„ ("Remembrance of the American airmen and Russian and Belgian resistance fallen in this area - 1940-1945") The flags of Belgium, United States and Russia hang on a rock in the middle. Next to the memorial stone is a bomb found in the region by a young man. The bomb was defused by the demining service (SEDEE) in Han-sur-Lesse on 20 August 2004. "Bomb GP 500 LBS with Impact noze Fuze M103 & impact tail fuze M100 American general purpose bomb Nominal weight: 250 kg Load: 125 kg composition B "
