Memorial stone for Winston Churchill who stayed here at the front from January to May 1916 as lieutenant colonel of the 6th battalion "The Royal Scots Fusiliers". Eleven men of the battalion who fell during that period are buried in the Lancashire Cottage Cemetery not far from the village center. One of them private W. Rossell was only 19 years old.
