At least 869 prisoners were murdered in this prison during the Second World War of which 638 where from the Czech republic, approximately 300 Poles as well as an unknow number of Germans and people of other countries, where killed here by guillotine. At the end of the war prisoners were also shot by firing squad From 1933 this prison was used to imprison political opponents of Hitler, and after the invasion of Poland a lot of Polish professors were held here before they were send to the Concentration Camps. The communist regime murdered hundreds of more people in this facility after the war.
