Dagda Jewish cemetery

On 25 July 1941 the Jewish inhabitants of Dagda were arrested by the Nazi's. Most of them were thereafter executed at the Dagda Jewish cemetery and in the Murāni forest. Some of them were transported to the Daugavpils forest, whereby a group on the way was killed by local militias. During the Soviet period a monument was erected on the Dagda Jewish cemetery : an obelisk in black granite. A similar monument was placed outside the cemetery. On it reference is made to the 120 inhabitants of Dagda, among them woman en children, who were killed here on 1 August 1941 by the "German-fascist occupants and their accomplices".
