Monument / Mass Grave Labour Camp HKP Vilnius

Subačiaus Street 47 & 49, Vilnius
Vilniaus Apskritis, Lithuania

In the two apartment buildings a work camp for Jews was established during the Nazi occupation of Lithuania. They were employed at the vehicle work place of the Wehrmacht that was headed by major Karl Plagge, who protected them from the crimes of the SS. For this in 2005 he was posthumously decorated as Righteous among the Nations by Yad Vashem. On the site of the former work camp a monument and commemorative stone are placed. In 2017 researchers discovered a mass grave on this location which contains the bodies of prisoners who were killed by the SS during the liquidation of the camp.
