This memorial commemorates the twice times "Hero of the Soviet Union" and Marshall of the Soviet Union Vasily Ivanovich Chuikov . This famous army general played a key role in the battle of Stalingrad. The text on the brick wall at the feet of the statue reads: [i]"There is in the enormous Russia one city, which I gave my heart... This city went into the history books as Stalingrad."[/i]
