In World War ll in Hotel Krasnapolsky was a bomb shelter. Hotel Krasnapolsky, which had just celebrated its 75th anniversary, remained open during the Second World War. The hotel management, despite the presence of the Germans, was able to provide shelters and also managed to keep many of its employees who were threatened with forced labor and deportations to Germany outside the Arbeidseinsatz. Hotel Krasnapolsky also offered the opportunity for people to listen to Radio Oranje.
