This airbase was built by the Luftwaffe in 1940 and subsequently bombed by Allied forces. The following Luftwaffe units were stationed here in the period 1940-1945: II./JG 26 with Focke Wulf Fw 190 III./JG 1 with Messerschmitt Bf 109 I./JG 3 (Bf 109) II./JG 3 (Bf 109) III./NJG 2 (Ju 88) I./KG 6 with Junkers Ju 88 and Junkers Ju 188 II./KG-6 with Junkers Ju 88 6.(F)/123 (Div.) Kommando Gotz with Arado 234 Einsatzkommando Schenck with Messerschmitt 262 It was renamed B-80 Volkel after the liberation of the region in 1944. The airbase is still in use.
