This park is named after Warren Joseph Sherrill, who was the first resident from Corpus Christi who was killed in World War II, on the Battleship Arizona on 7 December 1941. This memorial park commemorates: - The servicemen who were resident of Corpus Christi, who were killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, on 7 December 1941. - American POW's. Text on the memorial: "In Memory of American Prisoners of War" - Benjamin Birmingham, who was killed on 6 June 1918. - The residents of Corpus Christi who were killed or missing in the Korean War (1950-1953). - The residents of Corpus Christi who were killed or missing in the Vietnam War.
