This enormous eagle is placed in memory of the fallen of the Polish 2nd Army (2 Armia Wojska Polskiego) during the fighting for the Nysa river (16/17 april 1945) and the city Bautzen (21-28 april 1945). The total number of casualties of the 2nd Polish Army was on 28 April 1945: 21,360.
